Discover Your Personal Magic Hour For Writing

magic hour of writingAs you may know, magic hour is considered that time of day when the sun has dipped below the horizon, leaving the sky stained with vibrant colors.

For writers, magic hour is that time when you’re struck with inspiration and you find the flow of your writing. It might be at dawn, noon, or if you’re like me, 3 in the morning. Regardless the time, it can be an invaluable time if faced with writer’s block.

I experienced this last night … only it was about 3 in the morning — I guess that’s when the creative juices start flowing.

Discover Your Magic Hour

To find your own magic hour, you’ll need to experiment with your time.Try waking up early if you’re a morning person; staying up longer at night if you’re a night owl.

When do you find that you’re most productive?

  • I love that time of day when the sky takes on those luscious pink and purple tones, oh so gorgeous!
Anyway, unfortunately, I too receive my greatest creativity and inspiration late at night. That’s unfortunate because due to my commitments, I can’t afford to stay up that late. So I’ve learned to capitalize on any quiet time I can steal away, and even if I just get a few ideas started and leave them hanging, I can usually return at a more inspired time and crank out something valuable.

  • Loving this site by the way! But where’s the Retweet button? :)

I’m most productive in the mid-morning. I get up early, and I get going. But it’s post-breakfast, around 9 or so, when it really starts to flow.

Though I’m more of a night owl, I absolutely love mornings — Earl Grey tea with peanut butter toast!

I found flow with a similar routine a while back — writers must have different magic hours depending where they are in their life, or what they’re story is about.

    “I bringing sexy back! Yeah!”

Hah, This is probably a strange comment for those unfamiliar with wrdpress plugins.

That’s cool. I’m in the same boat — some days (most days) staying up til the early morning.

In terms if blogging, I find that planning out the week’s posts over the weekend really helps me stay on top of it so I can manage a few hours of sleep here an there while posting daily.

Sidenote: if any of you night owls get a chance, definitely swing by the beach for the night — watching the moon set on the ocean horizon is one if the most awesome sights I’ve ever seen.
